A striking Chelsea figure of Flora allegorical of the sense of smell, the goddess shown standing beside a marble plinth with a perfume burner and holding a flower to her nose. Ht: 10", 25.4 cm Mark: red anchor c.1758 This model was inspired by the Meissen model of Smelling from the set of the Senses by Eberlain. Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and the season of Spring and so was associated with fertility. |
